New alternative to the ‘package wedding’

People who want to get married in a cave, on board an ancient ship, a stately home, a moated manor house, or even in a medieval castle are quirky, different and very independent. They are as unlikely to book a ‘package wedding’ as they are to book a ‘package holiday’, and they want to influence every aspect of their wedding - and that includes the all-important catering.

.

These are also the sort of people that run the independent wedding catering company  ‘Kemp and Kemp Catering’, and this husband and wife team have now created www.independent-weddings.co.uk to help like-minded couples find all they need to assemble a truly individual wedding.

.

Kemp and Kemp Catering’s brand of catering is completely individual with absolutely no sign of ‘Menu A, Menu B’. They design wedding food carefully with each couple to ensure it reflects the venue, the season and the people getting married – ‘you are what you eat’ as they say.

.

But many such couples were asking ‘that’s great, but how can we employ Kemp and Kemp Catering when so many venues only offer their in-house catering?’ The answer was to find and list all the independent wedding venues in the Midlands that would allow Kemp and Kemp in.

.

The new website was then created. The site features 18 properties in central England from Derbyshire to Worcestershire (new ones are being added constantly), but it is hoped that the area covered may be expanded as interest in the idea grows.

.

Richard Kemp looks after the project management, administration and marketing of Kemp and Kemp Catering and the website ‘independent-weddings’ was his idea. He comments, “There are many wedding venue search sites on the internet, but none mention the all-important catering arrangements. This new website is unique in being built around those venues that allow brides a choice of caterers. It gives control to those that want it.

.

We’re delighted with the response from venues and from brides alike to this idea. Of course, not everyone feels the need to retain this level of control in their wedding preparations, but people increasingly want more say in every aspect of their lives and this website very much fits that ethos. When we got married we did precisely this [Kemp and Kemp got married in one of the venues listed on the site] and for us it was the only way to go with the most important day of our lives.”

.

Top Midlands-based wedding fair organiser and wedding expert Natalie Hannaford said "The idea of the 'Independent Weddings' website is a great one.  Kemp and Kemp have come up with a fab solution to a problem that the market has - I wish them well with it."

‘Falling in love with your food’

A Midlands catering company is changing the way brides plan their weddings.

.

Traditionally you find a wedding venue first and a caterer second. However, Kemp and Kemp Catering’s reputation is such that several brides have now become hooked on their choice of caterer, without a wedding venue.

.

And Kemp and Kemp Catering have the answer to this too – over the past 6 months the company has been compiling a database of the venues in the Midlands that will allow them to provide the catering.

.

Such venues are unusual as most wedding venues also want to hold on to the catering contract (why wouldn’t they, many are hotels or restaurants after all).  But Kemp and Kemp Catering have now found over 20 impressive venues where they are able to work, including stately homes, moated medieval manor houses, caves and castles. This information is provided to brides by way of a website called www.independent-weddings.co.uk.

.

Kemp and Kemp understand the ‘DIY’ market completely. Karen especially hates all manner of packages and made all the arrangements at her own wedding - the couple do the same with their holidays. Karen’s unique style of catering is bespoke and she designs the wedding food to ensure it reflects the season, the area of the country in which the wedding is taking place and the people getting married. Karen said “People who are fiercely individual like me want to retain control over every aspect of their wedding – and if food is important to them, they care about what’s being served up too.”.

.

The new website features over 20 properties in central England from Derbyshire to Worcestershire (new ones are being added constantly), but it is hoped that the area covered may be expanded as interest in the idea grows.

.

Richard Kemp had the idea and devised and built the independent-weddings website. He draws on a lifetime of experience marketing historic visitor attractions, like, York’s ‘Jorvik Viking Centre’, ‘Castle Howard’ and other high prestigious national attractions.

.

Richard commented: “The response from venues and from brides alike to this idea has been great. Not everyone feels the need to retain this level of control in their wedding preparations, but those who want ownership over every aspect of their lives love this idea.”

‘Hollywood approach at Staffordshire weddings’

.

Stafford-based film company, Lilac Films were not content with making films for The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, or the BBC, or a host of other high profile national organisations. They have now branched into the Staffordshire weddings industry and are offering brides-to-be the opportunity to star in their very own Hollywood-style film -  the film of their big day.

.

We’re all familiar with the lengthy, unedited and highly tedious ‘wedding video’, made by amateurs, but Lilac Films are seeking to dispel this stereotype by creating a professional film of the wedding including dialogue and a certain level of what one might even term ‘performance’ (optional and designed to fit the couple’s aptitude of course). This may include several cameras filming concurrently, exceptionally high quality equipment, a professional eye for editing, added music, special effects and a highly trained understanding for what makes the subject matter stand out and how to represent it in an attractive and highly engaging way.

.

Steve Cranston of Lilac Films explained “It occurred to us that our skills might well be of interest locally in the weddings market. Having suffered far too many jerky, grainy and largely passive videos that sadly trail a few feet behind ‘the happy couple’, we decided that an ‘out front’, confident and professional approach could revolutionise the genre. Our new website at www.lilac-films.com gives an idea of the quality of our films.”

.

Lilac Films have now joined forces with specialist wedding caterers ‘Kemp and Kemp Catering’ and have an entry under ‘Staffordshire’ on the fast growing ‘independent-weddings’ website at www.independent-weddings.co.uk. This was begun by The Kemps six months ago and is designed for couples who don’t want run-of-the-mill wedding catering, who crave an alternative wedding venue, and of course who shun conventional film/videography. The website features many independent and unusual Midland’s wedding venues, including Staffordshire’s Littywood Manor, Ingestre Hall, Tamworth Castle and Erasmus Darwin House, Lichfield. It has already helped a number of couples find out-of-the-ordinary and out of the way wedding venues and services and has over fifty entries from wedding venues and ancillary services, with more joining the whole time.

.

Richard Kemp of Kemp and Kemp Catering explained “Lilac Films are perfect partners for us as their approach is both bespoke and individual. It’s the same approach we take to our homemade food which we are proud to say is not packaged-up but always designed around each couple.”
